Shell Shape Workshop 4 | Making Sea Urchin Shell Lamps

2025.7.13(Sun)

(1) 10:00~ (2) 13:30

Lecturer: Shu Nakachi (Seaside Natural History Research Center)

We made sea urchin shell lamps using sea urchins caught in the waters of Kashiwajima.

While soaking the fish in bleach to make the thorns easier to remove, we talked about sea urchins and starfish. Of the 165 species of sea urchins known in Japan, 67 species can be found in this region, making it the most diverse area in Japan!

Illuminated by colorful LED lighting, the patterns on the sea urchin shells stand out.
